SYNOPSIS
In 1968, when Le Devoir de Violence was published, Yambo Ouologuem was still an unknown young Malian writer. Addressing themes of slavery and crimes between Africans before French colonization, his book quickly brought him out of obscurity. Even more, that same year, he became the first African to win the prestigious Prix Renaudot. Three years later, however, he was accused of plagiarizing prominent authors.
BIOFILMOGRAPHY
Kalidou Sy is a filmmaker and the son of Senegalese Fulani immigrants who arrived in France in 1967. He grew up in the Val d’Oise suburbs. Through the documentaries he creates, he strives to tell lesser-known stories. He has directed works on former Senegalese tirailleurs and the decolonization period, featuring testimonies from key figures of the era. He is also a journalist and correspondent.
