Gopalen P. CHELLAPERMAL, Mauritius, 2023
SYNOPSIS:
From the arrival of my first ancestors from India in 1856 as indentured laborers in the sugarcane fields of Mauritius, to my family’s nine-month journey in 1962, and the generations of Mauritians who left in the 1960s and 1970s in search of “gold under the rocks,” this film explores the reasons behind migration and how we perceive and experience our identity.
