SYNOPSIS
- The island of Mauritius is under French rule. Massamba and Mati, enslaved on Eugène Larcenet’s plantation, live in constant fear. Massamba dreams of securing his daughter’s freedom, while Mati longs to escape the green hell of the sugarcane fields. One night, she flees. In response, Madame La Victoire, a notorious slave hunter, is hired to track her down. Massamba has no choice but to run as well.
BIOFILMOGRAPHY
Simon Moutaïrou is a Franco-Beninese screenwriter and director. Initially pursuing literary studies, he later transitioned to cinema in 2006. In 2008, his project Les années sauvages won recognition from the Lagardère Foundation. In 2020, he co-wrote the film Boîte Noire alongside Yann Gozlan and Nicolas Bouvet, which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the 2021 César Awards.
