SAIDOU DERRA, Burkina Faso, 2023
SYNOPSIS:
SAALAPO, a 42-year-old man with a disability since childhood, dropped out of school in the sixth grade. After losing his mother, he started selling aprons and newspapers but dreamed of creating art objects. He travels to Ouagadougou, lives on the streets, and eventually discovers an artisan village. There, he supports other artisans and opens his own workshop, creating admired pieces, including a depiction of the coronavirus.
BIOFILMOGRAPHY:
Saïdou DERRA is a young filmmaker and a Master’s student in production in Burkina Faso. He gained recognition at festivals with his short film Mon avenir, ton avenir, showcased at Vues d’Afrique and Clap Ivoire 2024. A recipient of several awards, Saïdou DERRA is the founder of the cinema production company ‘LOCRE FILM VISION,’ established in 2022.
