SYNOPSIS:

A behind-the-scenes look at the work of Ousmane Sembène, one of the greatest filmmakers of Black Africa, through the making of his 1979 film Ceddo. L’Envers du décor offers an intimate perspective on Sembène’s creative process, reflecting the deep understanding and close relationship between the two filmmakers.

BIOFILMOGRAPHY:

Paulin Soumanou Vieyra (1925-1987) was a Senegalese filmmaker of Beninese origin and a historian of African cinema. He was the first Black African to be admitted to IDHEC (Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques). Recognized as the first sub-Saharan African filmmaker, he directed several works, including:
• L’Afrique à Moscou (1957),
• Une nation est née (1961),
• Iba N’diaye, peintre (1982),
• LAMB (1963) – Selected at the Cannes Film Festival in 1964.
