SYNOPSIS
In 1930s Congo, a Catholic missionary group establishes itself in a village about thirty kilometers from the regional capital. However, the villagers remain deeply attached to their traditions, and the construction of the chapel drags on. The priest, determined to speed up the project, relies on his local allies, including the village chief and the sacristan, to push forward his mission.
BIOFILMOGRAPHY
Jean-Michel Tchissoukou was born in 1942 in Pointe-Noire, Congo. He studied cinema in Paris at the Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (INA) and the Office de Coopération Radiophonique (OCORA). Upon returning to Congo, he worked for national television and directed:
• Illusion (1970) – his first film,
• La Chapelle (1979).
