As part of the 30th edition of FESPACO, scheduled to take place from 20 to 27 March 2027, film and audiovisual professionals are hereby informed that submissions for the Official Selection are open from 24 February to 20 October 2026.
The selection comprises two main sections:
Official Competition
The Official Competition is open to films by African filmmakers and filmmakers from the African diaspora in the following categories:
- Feature Fiction Film: minimum running time of 60 minutes;
- Feature Documentary Film: minimum running time of 60 minutes;
- FESPACO Shorts (Short Fiction and Documentary Films): running time between 1 and 35 minutes;
- Film School Fiction or Documentary Films: running time between 3 and 26 minutes;
- FESPACO Series: two (2) consecutive 52-minute episodes, three (3) consecutive 26-minute episodes, or six (6) consecutive 13-minute episodes;
- Animation Films: running time between 1 and 35 minutes.
Out-of-Competition Section
This section is open to films by filmmakers from around the world and includes the following programmes:
- Panorama;
- Focus;
- Diversities;
- Sukabè (Youth Programme).
Film Eligibility Criteria
Eligible films must:
- be no more than two (2) years old as of 31 December 2026;
- not have been presented at a previous edition of FESPACO;
- not have been commercially released in Burkina Faso.
All submissions must be made through the official websites of the Burkinabè Agency for Cinematography and Audiovisual (ABCA) and FESPACO, via the FESPACO 2027 film submission page. Submission implies full and unconditional acceptance of the submission requirements and the regulations governing the 30th edition of FESPACO.
A submission fee of thirty-two thousand seven hundred and ninety-eight (32,798) CFA francs, equivalent to fifty (50) euros or the corresponding amount in US dollars, is required.
NB: The deadline for submissions is 20 October 2026.
